Dan impressed Amy with his classy suggestion to meet up for drinks at Bavette's on a cold Sunday evening in November 2018. After several hours of spirited conversation about Chicago life, faith in God, and travel with our free Aviation cocktails, we knew there was a spark (despite Dan's slightly nerdy eyeglasses). We followed proper online dating etiquette by continuing to text over the Thanksgiving holiday break. Even though Dan was overwhelmed by Amy's novel-length messages, he continued to pursue her in what Amy says was "just the right way." The relationship shifted from being casual to something more serious right before Amy left to head to the Middle East for a two-week mission trip. As we sat in the car and listened to the new Mumford & Sons album, we held hands like sixth graders... and it wasn't awkward. Dan was able to render Amy speechless (which was heretofore an impossible feat) by his sweet, caring words encouraging her to be safe and wanting her trip to be successful. On New Year's Day, over pancakes and Bloody Marys (or in Amy's case a Michelada, which according to her is waaaaay better), we decided to make it official on the best day of the year for new beginnings. 2019 was the year we lived it up dating wise. Highlights included hibernating during the polar vortex, traveling to England to visit Amy's best friend Lindsay, going to California with the Greenawalt family, trying new (for Dan) restaurants like Next and Aba, and many "Sacred Sundays" filled with church, crossword puzzles, movies, books, and homemade dinners. In August of 2019, Amy was beyond surprised when Dan asked her to be his wife on a sailboat in Lake Michigan. That day was filled with so many fun memories with friends and family. We couldn't wait to marry each other so we did on May 9th, 2020 here in Chicago. It was a beautiful day filled with so much love. We look forward to celebrating with you all at a castle in Italy. Let's party! We hope you can join us! Amy & Dan
