We were talking for a few weeks online before we first met, and I had never been so glued to my phone as I was waiting for a text back. I invited her to burgers at my favorite burger spot, Salt City Burger Company (RIP) and we got along instantly. I was nervous, but she made me feel so comfortable. We then went to the Sandy Nickelcade where she kicked my butt repeatedly at air hockey and I crushed it at Dance Dance Revolution but mostly we talked, eventually getting kicked out of the arcade at closing time. We sat on my truck bed in the November cold, talking for hours about our families and how we saw the world. -Cody
Cody and I had talked about getting engaged for a while, so I knew the timeframe that Cody was allegedly planning to propose in. He still managed to surprise me, which was so special. Cody proposed on the anniversary of our first date, where we got burgers and unlimited fries (from Red Robin, R.I.P. SLC Burger Co.) and played arcade games at the local Nickelcade. I beat him in air hockey and he beat me in skee-ball and guitar hero. Afterwards, we sat on the tailgate of his truck and talked about the last year before Cody got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. That was the easiest "yes" of my life and the most pleasantly surprised I've ever been. He even enlisted my best friend to take photos from afar, which left us with some of my favorite and most cherished photos ever. -Amy
Amy mentioned that she liked to snowboard, and I was immediately in. I had considered it as a fun winter activity for a few years, but my friends never shared that interest. On Black Friday, a little over a week after our first date, I had lessons booked, bought all the gear, and was ready to full send into the hobby with her. After my first lesson I bought a board of my own and a season pass. We went up at least twice a week until the snow had all melted. It has been so great learning and falling and laughing with Amy on the mountain, and a test of how our adversities and work together pays off. -Cody
To know Cody or me is to know of our great love for the outdoors. Before meeting Cody, my summertime outdoors activities were running and hiking, usually up in Big Cottonwood Canyon or Little Cottonwood Canyon. Cody quickly expanded my horizons and in our first summer together, we camped by a hot spring, in Escalante, in Arches, the Uintahs a couple of times, and more. We hiked around Arches, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, and the Grand Tetons. Cody opened my world to truck camping, which is the best, and backpacking, which is also the best. There is something so connective and special about being with the one you love, away from regular life, appreciating the outdoors and how simple life can truly be. -Amy
