Our Story

From the Great Wall to the Taj Mahal... ....generations passed... ...stars aligned... ...and fate decidedly brought Amy and Chandru together in the crossroads of Cleveland! Amy and Chandru met for the first time, more specifically, in the VA White resident workroom during their intern year of residency training. Chandru was a seasoned "vet" of the Veteran hospital system, and enthusiastically helped Amy adjust to a hospital and rotation new to her. He once delivered this memorable comment during sign-out - "You have pretty eyes, which I couldn't help but notice because I look at eyes a lot as an ophthalmologist." Though certainly charmed by his wit, what really stole Amy's heart was how often Chandru would bring food and snacks into their workroom for her - an act reminiscent of the cut fruit her parents would bring her while studying - simple, yet full of consideration and affection. What was usually a dreaded and tiring medical rotation ended up being the best one yet, filled with food, laughter, and unexpected sparks. Soon after, they happily discovered that despite growing up with different cultural backgrounds, the two had a lot in common. They both shared a love for international cuisines, cooking, EDM/music festivals, anime, board games, trivia, and traveling - and also connected on their shared experience of being raised by immigrant parents, and the search for Asian-American identity in a melting pot nation. Chandru impressed Amy with his knowledge of Mandarin and his skilled re-telling of the timeless Mid-Autumn festival story about moon goddess Chang'e. Amy impressed Chandru with her ability to handle his mom's spicy foods, her complete transformation of his once dreary apt, and her seemingly boundless energy when it came to inventing new Asian fusion dishes or plotting adventures for them to go on. Equally important as their shared values and interests were their differences. After all, one can imagine how the mind of an eye surgeon operates differently than that of a psychiatrist. Amy helped Chandru hold greater appreciation for intangible details while Chandru helped Amy turn formless fantasies into achievable goals. Residency is often some of the most grueling years that doctors look back upon - moments of self-doubt and even despair are not uncommon. But by experiencing these years together, Amy and Chandru learned a lot about what it means to be supportive partners - encouraging, serving, appreciating, and most importantly, prioritizing one another amidst it all. For our friends who've read this far, we want you all to know that we cannot wait to celebrate together. Each one of you has shared treasured moments with one or both of us. Despite our imperfections, you all saw something worth sticking around for. You mean the world to us, and we are so grateful for your love, friendship, and support. 'Our Story' is incomplete without you all. LETS DO THIS TOGETHER!!! Love, Chandru & Amz
