Mary Queen of Scots was held here for 6 months. The story goes is that she escaped and made her way towards Leyburn, only to lose her shawl on the way, hence the name of the cliff edge that runs westward out of Leyburn and is a well known spot for easy walks with excellent views. The Castle is 200m from Amy's Mum and Ken's front door and Amy used to work here in the tearooms as a teenager serving food to the tourists that visited the Dales. She used to eat more of the cakes than she sold!
Once the home of King Richard III, Middleham Castle is a National Heritage site which housed the King until his death. Historians say, had he lived a little longer, Middleham would actually be the Capital of England. The Castle is 200m from Olly's parents' front door and he was once caught in there after dark and severely 'told-off' by the warden.
