Some might say that Katz's is the best pastrami on rye sandwich in NYC. We would beg to differ. We love Frankel's pastrami on rye, rueben and their bagels are excellent. We encourage you to check this spot out for a hearty breakfast during your stay. We walk there at least once per month. It's a classic NYC Jewish deli with A+ food. You won't be disappointed.
When Miles arrived in NYC, he thought all bagels were the same. It wasn't until he met Amy that he understood the difference between an average bagel and a real NYC bagel. She taught him that lesson at Bagelsmith and they've been grabbing breakfast bagels there ever since. If you want a true NYC bagel shop experience, check out Bagelsmith. Also, don't sleep on the #8 sandwich. It's also very good.
Sweet Chick is a staple for any out of town guest who visits us. The chicken and waffles have been a favorite of ours from the moment we set foot in Williamsburg. The combination of great food and hip-hop vibes make it a winner in our opinion. We've been to their New Year's party and seen Mob Deep play, Joey BadA$$, Nas and many others swing through here. Celebs and Williamsburg regulars love this spot for good reason. The food rocks.
Most travel lists would tell you to go to Peter Luger's in Williamsburg for a steak and trust us, Peter Luger's is good. However, the combination of better prices (and shhh) a better steak make St. Anselm one of our favorite spots for a date night. The staff rocks and literally everything on the menu is good. Seriously. If you order anything, we suggest The Butcher's Cut steak, but honestly, you can't go wrong.
You might call Amy and Miles "regulars" here. It's across the street from our apartment and we're there at least once a week. The bartender, Simon, knows us by name and knows our orders which is kind of awesome. The vibe is great, it's a no-frills spot to grab a drink and watch a game. They have excellent bar food and they're always down to host us and all of our friends. We had our engagement party here and we probably will go here for the anniversary party after party.
Old Budweiser signs, a mysterious coffee drink with alcohol, a shuffleboard table and a jukebox playing 70s and 80s rock and roll the entire night. That's the vibe at Rocka Rolla and we love it. If you come to visit us in NYC, this is definitely a place where we're grabbing drinks. Grab one while you're here celebrating with us!
The best slice of pizza in NYC? Our vote goes to Joe's. Everyone claims to have the best in pizza in NYC, but after sampling a lot of pizza, Amy and Miles swear by Joe's. You won't be disappointed - we suggest a plain cheese slice, but if you're feeling adventurous get some toppings.
We're not quite regulars here, but we're close. You'll often times see Miles rocking a Bernie's hat because he loves the restaurant so much. They do American classics incredibly well. You'll enter this restaurant and it will transport you back to another time in all the best ways. We suggest the vinegar chicken, the burger, mozzarella sticks, caesar salad and ribs, but honestly everything is good.
For those of you who know Miles, he has a bit of an obsession with sandwiches that was awoken when he moved to NYC. Fortunately, Amy also likes a good sandwich. We both agree that nothing beats a bodega sandwich, and while Anthony & Son isn't quite a bodega, it is a Williamsburg staple for 25 years. It's been here before all the hipsters and gentrification, back when Williamsburg still had a lot of descendants of Italian immigrant families. They sandwiches and paninis are next level. We suggest the FDNY hero (Miles' favorite) or The Godfather (Amy's favorite).
When Amy and Miles weren't living together, one of their favorite places to meet up was One Stop Beer Shop, which was near Amy's apartment. They went there so much, that Miles thought it would be a good idea to try their 40 beer challenge in an attempt to get a plaque on the wall. After many trips to the bar and Amy keeping him company, he succeeded in drinking 40 craft beers and now has a beautiful plaque designed by his friend and wedding guest Mike Williams.
A go-to takeout spot for Amy and Miles. We hope you'll be out exploring the neighborhood, but if you want to order a quick bite to eat, Sage is the spot. We suggest the Pad Thai or the Penang Curry, but as with everything we recommend, everything is good. They also have a great set-up inside should you decide to eat at the restaurant!
Birds of a Feather is one of our favorite Chinese restaurants in the neighborhood. We usually order takeout from here, but the restaurant is beautiful and always busy with people who are craving their food. We suggest any of their buns, dumplings and potstickers to start, then the fried rice with shredded duck.
We had one of our first dates at the Manhattan version of this bar. Alligator Lounge is a favorite place to take anyone who visits because you get a free personal pizza with every drink you order. Order a beer, get a pizza. You can't beat that. You also can't beat the late night karaoke, pool table, buck hunter and skee-ball machines in the back.
The name says it all, but this bar sits across the street from a north Brooklyn pencil factory. We love to grab a drinks here, sit at the tables outside on the corner of Franklin Street and Greenpoint Ave and watching all the bustling action of Greenpoint.
This is one of our favorite burgers in the city. We love to grab a burger here on a Friday night in their basement burger bar. We strongly suggest ordering Le Big Matt burger with waffle fries, but Emmy Squared is also know for their Detroit-style pizzas.
If you're trying to get a "fancy" pizza (not a big Joe's pizza slice), then Paulie Gee's is where it's at. We love their wood-fired pizza and we love that Paulie Gee himself often times will be at the restaurant asking diners what they think of the pizza. We suggest the Hellboy pizza, but all the pies rock.
Full Circle Bar is a skee-ball-themed bar that we love. Yes, you heard that right. This tiny dive bar has five skee-ball machines that you can reserve from your phone. Grab a few drinks, toss some balls and have a friendly competition with some friends or the other patrons. It's always a good time.
The East River Ferry is only $5 for a ticket and you can see the Manhattan skyline, The Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge and Williamsburg Bridge all on the same ride. Go south and head to Brooklyn Bridge Park or take it north and hop off on 33rd Street and you can walk to the Empire State Building in about 15-20 minutes.
Domino Park is a great new addition to the neighborhood. The city converted an old Domino Sugar factory on the East River waterfront and turned it into a great public park that sits under the Williamsburg Bridge. There are restaurants, food trucks and plenty of fun activities like volleyball courts, bocce courts and more.
Williamsburg is a treat. There's shopping, some of the best restaurants in the city and all types of bars and other hangout spots. Take a walk down busy Bedford Avenue, cut down North 6th street for some shopping or stroll north up to McCarren Park. If you're feeling adventurous, hop on the L train at Bedford Avenue and North 7th and you'll be in Manhattan after one subway stop!
