Make out point

The night I knew

We started the night off exactly as I expected.. we went on a drive and awkwardly made small talk trying to get to know each other again. We ended up going to make-out point and watched the sunset as we had done.. I don't even know how many times back when we were young, dumb high schoolers. We were catching up on life, talking about how much we have both changed after high school. I remember I was getting cold sitting outside so James said that we could keep talking in the truck. Well, he didn't have any steps for his truck and my 5'4" self couldn't get in on my own so he boosted me up. He turned on the truck and we got to talking again. All of a sudden red and blue lights fill the cab of the truck and as we look over we see an officer at the driver's side window. He said that he had received a call of a possible attempted kidnapping where a "bearded man threw a child into his truck and slammed the door shut" and he needed to see what was going on. He asked James to stay in the truck and asked me to get out. As I did, I almost fell to the ground since the truck was way taller than I was. (and again.. no steps) The officer laughed as I explained that James was just helping me get into the truck because I was too short and he was NOT trying to kidnap me. He asked if I felt safe and if there were any weapons in the vehicle. "Yes, I feel safe and no there are no weapons." He ended up leaving and thanking us for our cooperation. James helped me back into the truck and we spent the next good bit just laughing about the fact we had the cops called on us because I was too short. The rest was history, I knew in those moments that he was my best friend, he was my person, and he was the one I would spend the rest of my life with. -Amri

Our Engagement

If at first you don't succeed... try again?

I knew exactly how, where, and when I wanted to pop the question. I told her to get her nails done. I told her to take motion sickness meds for the long drive ahead. I had the ring sitting in the truck ready to go. We started our day at Belknap Hot Springs (she had been bugging me about wanting to go back ever since we went with my parents.) We spent the whole hour in the pool relaxing and talking about life. I could tell she had no idea what my plans were, it was just another day. Everything was perfect until... Not even 15 minutes into the drive back on HWY20 she started to complain about car sickness. There goes my plans! I'm not going to ask her when she is seconds away from throwing up in the truck. I was stumped! I had a plan and now I had to make a new one. Coincidentally, her birthday was just 2 days later, it gave the perfect excuse for us to both get dressed up and go out while not raising any suspicions. After an amazing birthday dinner, we were both undecided on what to do afterward. I made up my mind. We were going to go to the store and pick up some drinks and go to the spot. Where it began. We arrived minutes before sunset and had a perfect view from the bed of my truck. It was perfect, this was the moment. I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. The look on her face was pure shock as she said "You're not being serious." I looked back and forth between the ring in my hand and her staring back at me and said "Does it look like I'm being serious? Marry me." Since she said that simple three letter word my world changed forever. But... there have been endless wedding planning questions from that moment. -James
