One of the best places to get ice cream on the North Fork. They have a stupid amount of flavors to choose from and everything is homemade! Enjoy a scoop in the parlor or get some for the road, either way- you won't regret it.
HANDS DOWN THE BEST CHEESE SHOP IN THE WORLD. Honestly, this is a staple of the North Fork and everyone deserves to experience its greatness. The shop owners are very knowledgeable on all things cheese, how each tastes and what to pair it with. Many of the cheeses are also rare or hard to find in the U.S. so anything you pick up is sure to be delicious.
Rob and I love the food from this farm/bakery/butchery. Pick up a hand-milled-soap (oatmeal is my favorite), a fresh loaf of sourdough bread or even sausage (I would recommend breakfast, chestnut or pesto). If you don't want to take anything to go, there are dine-in tables and a cafe. The breakfast sandwich is arguably the best on the North Fork!
If you want something sweet to remember the weekend by, you need to make sure you stop by North Fork Girl Chocolates before you leave! Everything is good but I love the peanut butter chocolates the most!
Have you ever shucked an oyster? Well, now is your time to learn! The resturant itself used to be the wheelhouse for a great whaling ship until 1880 when it was brought ashore. Now it has become the home of the Little Creek Oyster Farm where you can get locally grown oysters.
One of the best meals you can get on the NF! Enjoy a variety of awesome dishes made from ingredients to the local to the area. Don't forget to grab a drink (or three) from the bar. The "tall, dark, & frisky" is a personal favorite.
This is the restaurant within the the Sound View Hotel - it's a great place to get a drink. I love the "Wish You Were Here" and Rob loves Pink Floyd so you know it's bound to be good. The restaurant is on the water and its sunset views are unparalleled.
Good vibes and even better cider! Check-in to the Riverhead Ciderhouse for live music, farm-fresh bar food, and delicious cider! Using New York-grown apples, Riverhead Ciderhouse offers three unique flavors - Benjamin’s Best, Razmatazz and our Reserve cider.
Beer that is not only made on the North Fork of Long Island but grown here as well. Hops for these delicious brews are planted on 43 acres of what was once a successful potato farm (in the height of NF potato farming days). Coincidentally hops love the same soil and environment as potatoes making this a match made in heaven! Hale Baler is their flagship beer but they have a variety available for purchase or on tap at their tasting room!
You've probably seen them on tap at your favorite bar or available as a 6-pack in your local grocery store. Now is your chance to visit the source! There are tasting rooms in both Greenport and Peconic. The original (listed here), is Greenport. I would suggest the Harbor Ale.
This vineyard makes sparkling wine in the traditonal Méthode Champenoise. The grapes are grown sustainably and their 3 vineyards encompass about 40 acres on the North Fork! The tasting room is down the block from Kenney's Beach and The North Fork Shack.
This shop and it's owner have charmed the likes of Instagram (check out @The_Shopkeepers). It is my favorite place to shop out on the North Fork for its easy breezy aesthetic and eclectic collection of vintage and local handmade goods.
In the summer of 1939 Einstein rented a cottage in Cutchogue and enjoyed the best the North Fork had to offer. This square is dedicated to him. Enjoy a slice of pizza, a scoop of gelato or just a refreshing coffee at the newly opened Einstein Square! Inside the shops, there are a variety of trinkets to browse or buy. The square is also in the heart of town, making it steps from other shops and places to eat.
This space is for local artists to show their work and sell to the public. Beyond this showroom, you can find these artists doing pop-up events across the North and South Forks. You might just be inspired to pick something up to remember your visit by!
As quoted from their Trip-Advisor page, "this FINtastic destination features one of the largest all-living coral reef displays in this hemisphere, a 120,000-gallon shark tank, year-round sea lion shows, African Penguins, Marmosets, numerous touch tanks and more than 100 exhibits including the lavish indoor gardens of our Butterflies, Bugs and Birds Exhibit!"
The museum will not be open during your stay but the park is still open and there are great views of the Long Island Sound from the bluffs. Supposedly, Einstein was a visitor in the summers of 1937, 1938, and 1939!
The buildings on Main Road were constructed between 1750-1900 and are cared for and preserved by the Southold Historical Society. The structures, which range from houses, barns, a schoolhouse and a smithery, are totally worth the go-see!
