Brandon and Val met freshmen year at UC Santa Barbara. They lived on the same floor at the dorms together. One night they were headed to a party in Isla Vista. Val noticed Brandon had the same llama Peru key chain she had and she asked him where he got it. Brandon said he was Peruvian and they instantly clicked. Brandon and Val became close friends throughout their freshmen year. Sophomore year Brandon and Val moved to Isla Vista and were coincidentally next-door neighbors. They both attended summer school and happened to be in the same English class. They spent the summer in Santa Barbara together and their friendship blossomed into a romance that continued through college. After graduation, Brandon and Val moved to San Diego where they continued to grow as individuals and as a couple. In August 2022, Brandon proposed to Val in Madrid while they were visiting her sister. Brandon popped the question during sunset at a restaurant overlooking the entire city. They spent the rest of their time in Ibiza, Barcelona, and Rome celebrating their engagement.
