Our Henna Ceremony

In many Muslim and Hindu weddings, it is tradition to have a henna party before the wedding. During a henna party, artists use a paste made from dried henna leaves to paint intricate patterns on the hands of the bridal party. Mehndi sessions are a tradition from ancient cultures dating back over five thousand years, where the groom and bride-to-be are given all the secrets of a happy and fruitful marriage as told by her closest female family members and friends. But we also welcome limited male advice too:) When henna is placed on the palms of the hand it is meant to signify that the person is open to receive and offer blessings. When the henna is placed on top of the hands it is meant to signify the protection of the person.

Our Wedding Ceremony

Cocktail Attire: Wear cocktail dresses, dressy jumpsuits, bollywood inspired outfits, dark jackets, slacks, ties optional.

The Nikah, in Pakistani/Indian culture is the Islamic marriage ceremony that is of utmost spiritual importance. The couple sit in the presence of a Muslim cleric, in our case, its our dear friend Hassan who will preside over our ceremony along with two witnesses for both groom and bride. Verses from the Quran are read on the vital obligations for their marriage. Think of it like a “for sickness or for health, for better or for poor” type of exchange. A Dua (prayer) is recited and both parties are required to agree to the marriage. The family then read Surat Al-Fatiha to bless the marriage. We will also incorporate a Cambodian blessing from Darin's family. Finally, the couple signs the binding contract which ensures their marriage is both civilly and religiously legal.
