How we met

Jenieve's Version

I actually first met Amin in 2008 at my 2nd class ever at Columbia University, Beginner's Swimming. He'll say he tried to speak to me, I do not remember this. We linked up again in 2010 when his fraternity was rehearsing to perform at my sorority's annual charity dinner. He started conversation with a super suave, "Hey, didn't we take that swim class together?" Took me a while to remember who he was; I only knew him as that hot guy I see around campus who only wears sleeveless shirts and wife beaters (oo la la!). Since then, we've gone through meal swipes at JJ's place, The Science of Psychology, three graduations, a couple of career changes, the birth of our son - Goku the Shiba, a marathon, NBA finals, trips abroad, food adventures, unfinished video games, and a couple of years of medical school and law school together. Somehow we've managed to squeeze in loads of love, laughter, good food, great TV shows, and memories as well. Amin's my rock, the calm to my storm, my favorite person to cook with, my gym buddy, my running pacer, and my best friend. Can't wait to add husband to that list <3.

How we met

Amin's version

We first met without quite knowing it. My sophomore year at Columbia I took a beginner swimming class with my roommate and good friend Steven Martinez. Jen (a Freshman at the time) was also in that class. I don't think we said two words to each other then but I did remember thinking she was quite beautiful. Flash forward two years later, my chapter brothers and I had agree to perform at KPL's annual Arise showcase. As we were waiting to rehearse our routine, I saw Jen and her sisters on stage also practicing. Seeing her again made me want to get to know her and I knew that someday she would be my girlfriend. That was seven years ago, and since then Jen has become my perfect complement. We're different in all the ways that keep a relationship interesting and similar in all the ways that count. I couldn't think of anyone better to start a family with. I look forward to the day we tie the knot!

The Proposal

Amin owes Jenieve a Red Chanel Bag

I wanted to surprise Jen. So I chose her birthday as a perfect cover to hide the proposal. We had dinner at B&S (formerly Havana Central) near Columbia. To throw her off, I told her I had gotten her a red Chanel bag as her birthday present but that I had forgotten it at my place. I even showed her a picture of "it." After dinner, I suggested that we take a walk along college walk for old time's sake. As we neared Alma Mater, she started to recognize some of our college friends all huddled around the statute, almost as if they had been invited there. *wink wink. All of a sudden, as it started to hit her, I got down on one knee. I don't know if it was the nerves or the catching her by surprise. But before she said yes, I'll never forget, the first thing she said was: "So you didn't get me a Chanel bag?" My future wife ladies and gentlemen. :-) -Amín
