We met using the dating app Hinge. Our first date was getting drinks at a bar named The Mercury Room in downtown Minneapolis. Justin was 15 minutes early and Ami was 20 minutes late. We both knew the other was someone special and wanted to continue to get to know one another. After months of dating it wasn't until we went to St. Cloud for a Delta Sigma Pi event that Justin asked if he should introduce her as his friend or girlfriend. Ami liked that latter. Stillwater is one of our favorite places to go for a date mostly because of Nelson's Ice Cream.
Justin had decided that Ami was the one he wanted to spend forever with. He looked at some rings and found the perfect diamond. Now he needed to figure out how to do it. Ami had been saying she wanted to go on a trip for months. Justin came up with a few trip ideas and laid out roughly where we would go and how much each trip would cost. Ami decided she wanted to go on the trip that would take us to Zion National Park and the Grand Canyon. There is a camper van company Justin had used for his trip in New Zealand called Jucy. It's a grand caravan that has been outfitted to camp in. The back has a small fridge, a sink and drawrs and cupboards for pots and eating utensils. The middle could slide back and store our bags then move forward and unfold the mattress to make up our sleeping area. We packed our bags together so I didn't have the chance to sneak the ring into my bag until Ami took a shower. I hid it in a bag that has a bunch of GoPro accessories figuring she would have no interest looking through that small bag. We went to Zion right away and planned to hike up Angels Landing first thing in the morning of the second day. While we were hiking I had to keep motivating her by telling her there was ice cream at the top. We finally made it to the top past the scary chains and decided to have some lunch. I had to get the ring box out of my bag without her noticing so I said "wow, would you look at that view" which was in the opposite direction of the bag. It worked, she agreed it was a great view and looked away for a good 15 seconds, long enough for me to get the ringbox and put it in my pocket. Everyone cleared out at the perfect time and I knew the time was right. I set up a GoPro looking at us and recording. I popped the question and she happily said yes! We took some pictures and made a couple calls beofre making our way down. She couldn't stop smiling the rest of the trip.
