How We Met

04/04/2017

Amera and Ariel met at Carroll Place bar in the West Village. Ariel showed up early not knowing Amera would be fashionably late (typical). Waiting outside the bar, Ariel texted Amera “I’m the handsome guy in the black sweatshirt” (Amera later told him to throw this sweatshirt in the trash). After intimate conversation for hours and a full bottle of wine, they shared their first kiss and a winding stroll through Washington Sq park. Amera knowing the NYU campus still proceeded to get them lost, and even though Ariel knew her sense of direction wasn’t the best, he knew they were headed towards a second date. What they both didn’t realize was that this was the start of forever.

The Proposal

10/15/2022

Amera and Ariel got engaged in Shorditch, London. Ariel knew that he wanted to propose so he surprised Amera with the trip, not telling her where they were going until they boarded the plane to London. Amera had studied abroad in London and had always talked about how much she loved the city. Ariel felt it was the perfect setting for a proposal. Amera admires Banksy, the mysterious famous graffiti street artist, and the couple had frequently taken graffiti pictures from all over the world on their travels. Ariel thought it would be a cool idea to create a graffiti wall just for the proposal with their names, and her favorite flower the sunflower. He hired a graffiti artist named Milan to go out early one of the mornings and paint an entire wall for the surprise. Ariel, not knowing what to expect of the wall took Amera‘s hand and walked her through the graffiti streets looking for the graffiti wall with their names. He put the ring in his backpack and told her to dress nicely as they were going to the theater that night. Amera curious and confused thought they were looking for a restaurant but instead they turned the corner and she saw the wall. To Ariel’s luck, there was only one other person on that street who happened to be a fellow graffiti artist who was admiring the new work. Ariel excitedly handed him the phone to capture the moment and proceeded to get down on one knee to ask Amera to marry him. The graffiti wall stayed up for over two months. We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you in New York!
