In August 2015, after years of living on her own, Amelia returned to her childhood home to help her aging grandparents. Part of her responsibility was to drive them to and from church on Wednesday Nights and Sunday Mornings. In April 2016, during Spring Revival Amelia invited her best friend of almost 20 years Jamelle Harris, to come to service with her. Jamelle also was friends with Omar for several years having met in 2013, so one night they decided that they would go eat dinner following service as a group. Even though they had been in church together for several months, Amelia and Omar really hadn’t spoken to each other. After that first night of sharing a meal together, this group of friends began to hang out several nights a week to either eat dinner or go for ice cream. .

In July 2016, after hanging out more and more because of the youth revival, Amelia and Omar exchanged numbers and began to randomly chat with each other. The group of friends began to hang out more and more following this revival and because it made more sense, Omar would ride with Amelia to and from the outings because they only lived 5 houses away from each other. Several times when Amelia would bring Omar home from these group outings, they would sit and talk about nothing and everything. Their faith and service to God is really important to each of them. Though they each had been praying that God would send them their future spouse, they didn’t think nothing of how close they had become. They each will admit that when they decided to take their friendship that they had been cultivating over the last 5 months and make it more, it was like an ah-ha moment and everything just clicked. The couple has always enjoyed serving God together. They like to sit and talk about nothing under the stars and find different constellations. It was a conversation under the stars about the movie Lion King, that made them realized that they were each in love with the other person and wanted to marry them.

On March 11, 2018, Omar surprised Amelia by proposing during Sunday Morning Worship Service. If you haven’t seen the proposal video, you should check out either Amelia’s or Omar’s Facebook page. They often debate when they each met, and who was feeling whom first, but they each agree that if you serve the Lord with your whole heart, and follows his commandments, that he will give you everything that he promised you. As it is stated in Habakkuk 2:2-3; 2 And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. 3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
