We met at Bethel Church in Fairbanks. We were both going to school up there. My best friend, Briana Herr, is Axel's cousin, and she had been teasing me for the past 5 years about her commercial fishing cousin who I needed to meet! Once we were introduced, we started talking and hanging out at a Christian group on campus and after church at the Person's. Axel would find excuses to stop by and see me at my house or take Briana and I on road trips between Fairbanks and Wasilla. Briana and I had been going on bird hunts every weekend, so Axel bought a .22 and started bringing us with him to find birds which turned into caribou hunting trips at -16 F in blizzard storms. We each shot our first caribou together along with a black bear in the middle of winter. Axel introduced me to backcountry snow machining (before that I had only had a Polaris Indy for trail riding) which started a series of snowmachining trips all over Alaska! This last summer I went fishing with his parents to learn about seining, and from this year on we will fish together! A little bit about Amelia, 19 years old. Amelia started commercial fishing when she was 2 weeks old in Bristol Bay and fished for the next 19 years. She enjoys hunting, school, work, videography, and outdoor adventures with family and friends. She will be graduating with her Bachelor's in Business Administration this spring. A little bit about Axel, 21 years old. Axel grew up commercial fishing and hunting with his family in Alaska. He started driving his dad's crab boat at age 7, and his first year as a full share crew member he was 11. He has owned and run his own commercial fishing operation now for the last 3 years. Axel is an avid backcountry snowmachiner and dirt-biker.
