Like all great modern love stories, ours began in the middle of a global pandemic—with awkward facetime calls and two people quarantined in separate states (Kansas and Kentucky, if you can believe it). Despite being separated by hundreds of miles and a decent time zone change, we kept in touch through texts, calls, and Devins most used form of communication, Snapchat. College life kept things interesting. Devin was at Bellarmine University in Louisville playing baseball, while Amelia "studied" at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. So began our mid-distance relationship—far enough for traffic to be annoying, close enough for surprise visits and Buffalo Wild Wings runs. Amelia became a loyal fan at Devin's baseball games (she survived hours on the hill with other girlfriends and only mildly complained), and Devin made the trek to Lexington more times than his schedule or coach really allowed. Sometimes, all it took to motivate that drive was the promise of Amelia doing Devin’s homework… in exchange for dinner. We’re not saying it was the most ethical arrangement—but it was effective. Somewhere along the way, a floppy-eared golden retriever named Rip joined the crew. What began as “Devin’s dog” quickly became “our dog,” as Rip inserted himself into every memory—from couch snuggles to baseball games to proudly interrupting serious conversations with squeaky toys. And now, after surviving mid-distance, college, a pandemic, and countless decisions about where to eat… we’re getting married. Let the next adventure begin! 🥂
