How We Met

Plenty of Fish? Really?!

I always told myself I would never succumb to making a dating profile- I would pick at people who were on those sites because, well, have you ever seen the show Catfish? 😆 Once I had my profile all set up, I was casually chatting with different guys but none of them really reeled me in and kept me interested. I stumbled across Jay’s profile and when I went to send him a message, I had already gotten one from him- of course, complimenting my green eyes. We hit it off instantaneously, I felt like I had known him all my life. We communicated in various ways until we met in person, December 29th 2013. I just so happened to be admitted at Winchester Medical Center for a few days, I have Crohn’s Disease and of course it was acting up. Jay met me in the hospital that day, as soon as we locked eyes I knew. I know that sounds CRAZY but when you know, you know. When I met him, I was going through a lot medically and I told him everything that happened. As much courage that took, and the fear of rejection was terrifying; Jay is the most kind-hearted man i’ve ever known, to want to get to know me during the scariest moments of my life says a lot about a person if you ask me. Most guys I thought wouldn’t of taken a second glance once they knew the full extent of what I was dealing with but Jay proved me wrong. Looking back now, i’m so glad I listened to my friends when they told me to get on a dating site. Jay is seriously my absolute best friend and the love of my life 💚

The Proposal

No, not like the movie.

Since moving up to West Virginia to live with Jay in the summer of 2014, we had always kicked around the idea of getting married, although this isn’t Jay’s first marriage; They always say the first marriage is a learning experience if you get hitched at a young age, and he did just that. Me on the other hand, had been in quite a few ‘serious’ relationships in the past, hoping one would pop the question and it just never came up. All of my friends around me were getting engaged it seemed, except me. I thought I was the problem. Jay, once again, proved me wrong with that thought process. He’s probably asked me to marry him at least 75 times, never serious with a ring though. The morning Jay formally proposed to me was kind of a blur, I remember waking up and migrating to the couch. Jay ran out to the store and when he came back, he woke me up by sliding a beautiful solitaire on my finger. He then asked if I would officially become his Amby Hamby and of course I giggled as I said yes 💖
