Established in 1983 by a group of leading figures in the music industry—including Atlantic Records cofounder Ahmet Ertegun and Jann Wenner, the publisher of Rolling Stone magazine—the nonprofit Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation was responsible for the creation of the museum and hall of fame, which began inducting honorees in 1986. Musicians become eligible for induction into the hall of fame 25 years after the release of their first recording. In 1986, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its first group of inductees: Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Fats Domino, James Brown, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke and the Everly Brothers. With Eric Clapton's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist on March 6, 2000, he became the first musician to have been inducted three times. Aretha Franklin was the first woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Rickey Jackson was the first New Orleans Saints player elected to Pro Football Hall of Fame; today a total of 9 have been inducted. Cincinnati Bengals have 3, Charlie Joiner, the first Bengal in 1972. The Cleveland Browns now have a total of 21 players that have been inducted with Jim Brown, according to many, the greatest running back of all-time inducted in 1971.

This large circular, domed mausoleum is the final resting place of William McKinley, the 25th president of the United States. McKinley was born in Niles, Ohio but he called Canton home throughout his adult life. He began his career in this city, met his beloved wife, and ran for the highest office of the nation here. His election in 1896 launched an era of Republican dominance that continued until 1910. McKinley governed during a period of intense American expansionism. Domestically, he supported policies that benefited American business, including high protective tariffs and deflationary fiscal policies.

The Canton Museum of Art traces its roots to the Little Civic Art Gallery founded in the Canton Public Library in 1935. A year later, the organization became known as the Canton Art Institute and an active program of exhibits and educational programs flourished throughout the late 1930s. In 1941, a Richardsonian building known as the Case Mansion was donated and renovated to become the home of the Institute. The Canton Museum of Art’s Permanent Collection focus is 19th-, 20th- and 21st-century American works on paper and contemporary ceramics, 1950s and forward. Major categories are American drawings; American watercolors; American prints and American ceramics.
