We met at good ole G.L. Shacks in Catonsville, MD. I was a server who didn’t know what they were doing and he was a cool, calm and collected chef. He was prepping and cooking, I was asking for free food. He finally made me some tacos and chicken pasta (my favs) and I thought wow that’s good, what else can this man cook. And cook he did. You name it, he cooked it. I knew then that I had to snatch him up, while he was probably wondering what he was getting himself into. Little did he know. Time passed, we ate, we laughed, we left the restaurant life, we traveled and went on hiking and swimming adventures. We ate some more, and realized along the way that we were opposites in every sense of the word. I am the chaos to his calm, the loud to his quiet, the competitive to his uncompetitive, and the impulsive to his thoughtful. You know what they say about opposites. One of them is chirping people while walking drunkenly into a pool, fully clothed, while the other is shaking their head laughing, grabbing a towel and getting the car started. We took our love for food and adventures to the rural parts of Maryland and currently live in Mount Airy with our pup, Hudson who loves food and hikes just as much as us.
It was a dark and blustery December evening, I had just gotten my nails done to look like a Santa hat and was upstairs doing skincare. Andrew arrived home and was calling from downstairs, to which I ignored and carried on with my routine. I had a face mask on, the kind that tightens your entire face. I came out of the bathroom to an Andrew down on one knee proposing, trying to record it on his phone, being cute. I immediately said yes but my excitement was masked, if you will, by my skin-tight face mask. Fast forward 10 minutes, my face had emotion again, I was squealing at my beautiful ring, Andrew was presenting me with chocolates and flowers and a video that naturally didn’t capture the proposal itself but could hear me mumbling, “Are you proposing! I’m wearing a face mask!” This is us in a nutshell. Him being kind, considerate, and patient. Me being oblivious and prioritizing my Korean skincare.
