The official story is that they met at True West Coffee on 11/16/2012. The unofficial story is that they met on-line about a week before. They are a “Plenty of Fish” success story. Their first in-person meet-up was at True West Coffee where they bonded over a shared order of iced coffees with soy milk. Even though the future Mrs. Hicks was bombarded with mildly inappropriate questions from a friend of Mike’s whose band was playing at True West, it was decided that the date would carry on from the coffee house to a local restaurant where again, the couple would bond over a shared love of veggie patch pizzas that were no longer on the published menu. From there, they took their first date to a Fairfield bar for karaoke (ask Mike about his “The Voice, chair-spinning moment), the groom’s house so he could show off his guitars and music- related scrapbooks, and finally to The Thirsty Turtle where “Cousin Wayne” was spinning and played the Manson song the couple first danced to (Pistol Whipped). From there it is safe to say they were inseparable. He asked her to sing in his band , she said, “no”- but we all know how that turned out. “It’s not luck, it’s fate”.
