Our Story

We met, like many couples these days, through online dating. For our first date, I suggested a hike and brought Oakley along for “safety.” If you knew Oakley, you'd understand—he looked the part, but he wasn’t exactly what you’d call a guard dog. Shortly after we met, Kyle took a job building trails in Boulder, and we started dating long distance. Oh, and did I mention this was during the start of COVID? Despite the challenges, we made it work with park dates in Denver during the week and camping adventures on weekends. Our first big trip together was a long weekend in Telluride. If you want to get closer to someone, try sharing a small tent and surviving without a conventional bathroom for a few days. Nothing will bring you together faster than that. After that first year, Kyle moved back to Colorado Springs, which allowed us to spend more time together—playing frisbee golf, fishing, and enjoying the local breweries and restaurants. One adventure we’ll never forget was a backpacking trip for my birthday. The first night, a bull moose got uncomfortably close and slept outside our tent. It made us question whether we’d ever go backpacking again. But despite being rained on all morning, we pushed forward, and by the time we reached our next spot, the skies had cleared. We found the perfect camping spot along a stream, which made all the effort worth it. Almost finishing up the trip, we stopped on the trail to take some photos. That’s when Kyle surprised me by asking me to marry him! I should have guessed something was up when he brought a tripod on a backpacking trip. I was so shocked, all I could say was, “Are you for real?”—at least 20 times. We’re beyond excited to continue our adventures, now as husband and wife!
