How It All Started

First comes school, then comes marriage

My family and I moved to Cedar Springs in 2007, my seventh grade year. Since I was starting at the new school in the middle of the semester, the teacher assigned another student to help me get caught up. That student was Austin Frandsen! He helped me with the class for a few weeks but it was nothing more than that until the beginning of our junior year of high school (2010) that we first met. We both enrolled in the afternoon session for the Kent Career Technical Center. We would leave mid-day from high school and take the bus down to the Career Center in Grand Rapids. After a couple days of riding the bus, I noticed this cute boy who always sat in the back. So one day, I gathered up the courage and went back to introduce myself. Not only was he cute, but he was sweet and funny! So from that moment on, I sat in the back of the bus with him. We would talk the whole way there and back. I noticed I was starting to really like him so I asked for his phone number and he very willingly gave it to me! From there, he took me on our first date. He took me two-tracking in his old Bronco. We had a blast even though we got stuck and Austin had to call a buddy to come pull us out!! Then came Christmas Day 2010 when he asked me to officially be his girlfriend! Fast forward eight years and we are getting married!

The Proposal

07-08-2016

It was our last day of vacation in Killarney in 2016. We decided to go for a morning hike before we hit the road to head back home. We drove a few miles down the road to the Chikanishing Trail. We hiked 1.5 miles out to where the trail ends at the mouth of Collins Inlet on Georgian Bay. There, we sat on the rocks and watched the waves and boats go by. After our small break, we started the hike back. Once we reached a spot where it opens up and you can see Georgian Bay and the islands, Austin asked me to stop to look at the trail marker sign that was giving history about that location. As we were standing there, we noticed two men down at the waters edge getting completely undressed to go for a swim! =O We were laughing about it but I thought it was weird just standing there so I tried to walk away but Austin kept calling me back to "look at something." After another minute or so went by, I said "This is weird and I don't want to stand here anymore!" So I turned around and started to walk away. I heard him say, "Hey, wait!" So I turned back around and there he was down on one knee. I thought he was joking about something and I laughed and kind of slapped him on the arm to stand up. Then he pulled out the ring and I realized he was serious and he asked me to be his wife!! Of course, I said "Yes!" (: Then we finished our hike (I was smiling and giddy the whole way back) and went back to camp and I very excitedly told my parents and showed off my beautiful ring!
