High School Sweethearts

Time flies...

If you're reading this, you probably already know the story of how we started dating. But in case you missed it... We were two fifteen-year-olds who had just started high school. Being the cool teens that we were, we joined the pep band. Amber, a clarinet, sat in the front row at all the basketball and hockey games, while Andrew, the bari sax player, well - he sat in the back. So knowing each other at this point was not a possibility. Coincidentally enough though, we both went to the same church. There, we were in confirmation together and put in the same small group. Andrew was in archery at this time as well, making his attendance less than stellar, so Amber's recollection of homeboy was slim to none. It was later in the fall that Andrew noticed Amber in the hall on the way to band class. "Hmm," he thought, "I should Facebook message her and say Hi." And that's how the saga of Amber and Andrew started. We messaged back and forth for several days until he finally said, "Could I maybe get your number, so it's easier to talk?" He did it, he got her phone number! Rounding out the year 2013, we were up late talking on New Years' Eve, discussing our new classes in the coming trimester. Andrew shoots his shot, "Would you want to go on a date sometime soon? I hear the new Hunger Games movie is good." And Amber said, "Yes!!" From there on out, and for years to come, the 31st of December would be our anniversary. Making it all the way through high school - going to all the pep band games, talking in the back row during halftime, going to as many archery tournaments as possible, and holding hands in the hallway - we were inseparable. We went on mission trips, to camps, and got in trouble on confirmation winter weekend for holding hands. We were, "Amber and Andrew." But that was all just the start! Flash forward to college, to visiting each other's campuses in Minneapolis and Mankato, and to rivaling over who had the better hockey team - *cough-cough* The Mavericks.... *cough-cough* The Gophers. We were never truly long-distance, but we always made time for each other, no matter the amount of homework on our plates. Those years were difficult, but made us more thankful for the other person. Then junior year - if 2020 was good for anything, it was August 25th - the greatest day of our lives thus far. This was the day that we agreed to be stuck together forever, with the simplest of words, "Will you marry me?" This day of surprise that nearly got destroyed by Amber's stubbornness is simply put, one for the ages. Now after almost two full years we have since graduated college, moved into an apartment together, and learned who really is the messiest; *cough-cough* Amber.... *cough-cough* still Amber. Wedding planning is exhausting, but fun with your best friend at your side. Marrying your best friend is something truly special, but marrying your high school sweetheart feels magical. After almost 9-years together, we can't wait for the rest of forever.
