Our Story

Amaris and Nelson's story began with a right swipe on Bumble and a first date at Dana Peak Park in Harker Heights, TX on July 14, 2018. At the time, Amaris was completing her dental residency in nearby Belton, while Nelson (ever the committed romantic) was living in Pflugerville and making the hour-long drive almost daily just to see her. As it turned out, their lives had been circling each other long before that first date. Amaris grew up in Harker Heights and Killeen, and Nelson in nearby Copperas Cove, two small towns nestled near Fort Hood. With both of their families having deep military roots (her father and his grandfather were stationed at Fort Hood), it’s likely they crossed paths growing up without ever knowing it. They quickly bonded over their shared Puerto Rican heritage. Nelson is half Puerto Rican and half Colombian, while Amaris is proudly Boricua through and through. From family traditions to favorite dishes, so much of what felt like home to one felt familiar to the other. Seven years, two dogs (Leila and Pepi), and countless soccer matches later, they now share a home in Pflugerville and work in Austin. Their weekends are often filled with time spent with family, cheering on Austin FC from their season ticket seats, and planning their next road trip. Past adventures have taken them through Colorado, New Mexico, and Hot Springs, Arkansas, with many more pins to add to their map. Nelson proposed on the beach in Port Aransas at sunrise, a quiet tradition they started the year before on their anniversary. This time, he surprised Amaris by inviting some of her closest friends to join them for the weekend, turning a beautiful morning into an unforgettable celebration at her favorite place. Together, they’re building a life full of laughter (Nelson is already well into his dad-joke era), love, and big dreams, like one day becoming the most enthusiastic soccer parents on the pitch sidelines.
