Crossing Thresholds Together - A & A

Our Wedding Story (Amanda's Telling) It has been a season of crossing multiple thresholds, for me and Adam. First on March 4 when we set out on a rainy and cold late afternoon on a Couples Medicine Walk. Our intentions and spirits were held from a distance by two beloved friends of ours, a couple that lead Rites of Passages for youth and adults. On March 10th we left the USA boundaries and traveled across the globe to Sri Lanka, the tear drop country south of India. On one adventure in Sri Lanka we departed a small mountain town (Dalhousie) at 1:30 a.m. on foot. We climbed 5200 (man-made) steps to the top of Sri Pada (also known as Adam’s Peak). The journey was long and we made it back to our hotel at 11 a.m. to then travel for 6.5 hours by taxi then train. When we got to our next Guest House we found another 110+ steps to climb and this time with our heavy backpacks on aching, wobbly legs. And It was in a town called Kataragama that we tied our first knot (with a coin in it) to a rope, in the temple site that Hindu, Muslim and Buddhists pilgrimage to. for blessing of success and help in times of challenge from the revered Sri Lankan guardian god, Kataragama. It’s symbol and vehicle for travel is a Peacock. Our honeymoon was an adventure of many joys, as well as challenges. Back in California, on April 29th we tied the “official” knot at the Sea Ranch Chapel, in a marriage ceremony with our families and officiants, a creative and collaborative couple who are our neighbors. Our families participated by giving us 7 blessings, and we exchanged vows and beautiful floral head wreaths. On May 13th our wedding reception was held at the Solar Living Institute, in Hopland, CA. We planned and executed this as a team. Adam and I were lifted on chairs and were danced to the Jewish Hora. It must have been a success, when I did not want the night to end, and when all said and done, I said it was the best party I’d ever been to. More celebrating on September 9 in Newark DE!
