Chris (though he was best known as "Derty" at Domino's, hence the hashtag #amandagetsderty) had been minding his own business, slinging pizzas, when plucky young Amanda popped in inquiring about jobs. Not one to let his new coworker silently make pizzas, Chris spent months asking about her Animal Crossing town in a surprisingly successful effort to befriend Amanda. Although they only worked in the same store for less than a year, Chris and Amanda grew close enough for coworkers to start teasing them with "Oh when's the wedding?" Joke's on them though -- it's October 18.
The definition of first date for these two is very...well, murky. Is it when they both still worked for Domino's and went to Olive Garden that one time, or is it the time they went for ice cream? Maybe it's that time they got pizza downtown and held hands? To make it simple (and keep our cute matching first date-wedding date), we're going to go with this one. It started with Chris tricking Amanda into revealing she had no plans the next Tuesday, leaving her with no excuse to refuse his offer of Outback. Flash forward to Tuesday: Chris spent the entire day at work babbling to his coworkers (who were already tired of hearing about this chick), and he even brought a collared shirt to look nice. They were both very nervous, and it showed like an old mustard stain under a blacklight. Luckily, they'd known each other for years (and were complete suckers for each other), so the awkward didn't last. Dinner went great -- so well, that neither of them wanted the date to end, so they ventured off to the neighboring book store. They browsed the manga section, as Chris talked about One Piece for the first (but definitely not last) time to Amanda. They settled into the cafe and talked and bashfully smiled at each other until realizing that the store had been closed for 15 minutes. Nevertheless, these suckers still weren't ready to end the date. They left the book store and settled into Amanda's car, and couldn't stop talking and smiling at each other. They listened to music and talked until Amanda rested her head on Chris's chest (fun fact: Chris claims this was the moment he knew he loved Amanda). At this point, it was well past midnight, and while neither one wanted to leave, they had to accept that it was time to call it a night. And that's the wonderful, sappy, perfect-for-them original story of Amanda and Chris.
This one requires some context -- Amanda spent two weeks in Australia over New Year's, and everyone else spent two weeks consoling Chris. They jokingly decided that while she was gone, Chris would write a list of everything he wanted to do once she got home -- but he'd write it on a giant scroll for dramatic flare. Amanda's flight home to Tampa was running five hours late, which left an excited and stressed Chris ample time to wander the Tampa airport and befriend Leonard the pilot (who you can thank for the photo below). The pre-proposal nerves were about to tear Chris apart, but at long last, Amanda had landed! And then got stuck walking behind an absurdly short, infuriatingly slow woman, giving the soon-to-be-engaged couple plenty of time to switch between staring longingly at each other and shooting death stares at the tiny woman standing between them. Unfortunately for Chris, their reunion was cut short when Amanda dragged him down to baggage to meet a friend from the trip. Though somehow, the baggage was slower than the tiny woman, and while waiting, Chris handed Amanda a scroll to unravel, supposedly the list of things to do together. It might have been the 20-hour flight, but Amanda was so surprised to read "Souchee, Will you marry me?" that she froze, and while she managed to say "Yes!", Chris had to wrestle her hand away from the scroll to put the ring on.
The year was 2019. We'd finally booked our venue and secured our wedding date, and were designing our save-the-date cards. Amanda wanted something a little snazzier than "Amanda and Chris are getting married" on the cards, but one misguided internet search for synonyms later, Chris was dead-set on "Amanda and Chris plight their troth" (a phrase that went out of style centuries ago). If you're about to go check your save-the-date, don't worry -- we settled on the updated "Amanda and Chris are taking the plunge."
