Please refer to the "Travel" page! I recommend staying in my neighborhood, Bayou St John, or in the French Quarter. These areas are both close to Wedding Festivities as well as close to tourist attractions.
You don't have to. Taking Lyft or Uber is an easy and fairly inexpensive way to travel around New Orleans. If you are staying at a hotel in the French Quarter, you definitely should not rent a car, as parking is extremely limited and very expensive. If you would like to rent a car, plan to get an Airbnb in a quieter neighborhood so you can find street parking more easily.
If you've never used a ridesharing app, don't worry! It's super easy. Download the app on your smartphone, add your credit card information, and then you're ready to go! You enter your destination, confirm your pickup location, and await your driver. I usually prefer Lyft, but Uber is also popular in New Orleans, so no matter which app you use, you shouldn't have to wait long for a ride. If you've never used Lyft before, use my referral code "AMANDA843538" and we will both get a discount!
Sure! We like kids, and we like for our friends with kids to be included in everything! Our house (where we will have Friday night's party) is not child-proofed, and there are lots of stairs, so keep an eye on the kiddos! The garden (where we will have Saturday afternoon's party) is actually the children's garden at Longue Vue, so there will be some kid-friendly activities there. Just beware that your kids might end up dirty!
Bourbon Street is famous for its drunken debauchery. It tends to be smellier, dirtier, and way more expensive than anywhere else you are likely to go in New Orleans. If you MUST check it out, my advice is to have a drink first, as Bourbon Street is extra gross to the sober. Go on the early side of the evening, before it gets super crowded, watch where you are stepping, and avoid ALL puddles. If you are enjoying walking down the street and want to hang out longer, find a bar that has a balcony, go up onto that balcony, and watch the crazy drunk people from a safe distance. If you have caught any beads on the street (do NOT pick beads up off the ground!), feel free to throw them to people! But my best advice is don't waste too much time here.
I have two favorite things: 1. Daytime - hang out under a live oak tree! There are great trees all over New Orleans! I definitely recommend going to either City Park or Audubon Park at least one time during your trip. 2. Nighttime - go hear live music and DANCE! If you want to find live music near you, I recommend downloading the WWOZ Livewire App. It will show you a map of what clubs near you have music and when the show starts! Most places do not have a cover charge, but all have a one-drink-minimum.
