It all started at the Inn at Auraria student housing complex when Amanda was starting her graduate program at the University of Colorado Denver and Spenser was starting his undergraduate degree in 2006. They met through their room mates but since Amanda was only going to be in Denver for one year before leaving for Paraguay, she thought they were good friends. Fast forward to 2010 when Amanda returns to Denver to graduate with her Masters in Environmental Science. Spenser was still in Denver and finishing his degree in Marketing. They started hanging out more and more and the next thing you know they decided to start dating on July 13, 2010. Todo comenzó en el complejo de viviendas para estudiantes Inn at Auraria cuando Amanda estaba comenzando su programa de posgrado en la Universidad de Colorado en Denver y Spenser estaba comenzando su licenciatura en 2006. Se conocieron a través de sus compañeros de habitación, pero como Amanda solo estaría en Denver durante un año antes de salir para Paraguay, pensó que eran buenos amigos.
