Peter and Amanda met through a mutual friend Nick at the Wisconsin Lutheran Chapel while at UW Madison. Chapel had $3 dinners every Monday night during the school year which as broke college students was a deal way too good to pass up. Amanda had been regularly attending these $3 dinners when Nick invited Peter to come one fateful week. Nick introduced the two to each other by telling them that they had the same major. From there the running joke is that they started talking and Amanda just never stopped talking. The rest is history.
Their first date was spent playing Ping Pong. Peter was kind enough to give Amanda an 11 point lead to start because she hadn't played since she was 10 years old. Despite her 11 point lead Amanda still almost lost and Peter had to throw the game in order to let her win. (Amanda likes to say that Peter shouldn't be surprised if their future children aren't D1 athletes.... but Peter says he is still holding out hope). This is also the only time Peter has ever thrown a game to let Amanda win.
Peter and Amanda went to visit their friends in Madison for the weekend. While in Madison the group suggested to Amanda that they go to brunch. On the way to brunch they dragged Amanda into the capitol building where she complained that "they were going to make her think Peter and her were getting engaged when they really weren't".... (jokes on Amanda). The group took Amanda up the stairs to the balcony and as they were climbing the stairs Amanda noticed Peter was wearing shoes too nice for a random day in Madison. When they made it to the top she was confused why there was no ring. After walking to an area that didn't have a giant crane in the background Peter got down on one knee and proposed..... Amanda was informed she had to include that she was so excited to get her ring she stole it out of Peter's hand and put it on herself. (They have been practicing to ensure that on the day of the ceremony that PETER will be the one that puts the ring on her finger).
