Some love stories have this large magical moment in life where two individuals are standing in the rain and look over to finally find their person in front of them, for us our story just wasn’t that way. Our story is gradual as if the universe was pulling our strings together through an unyielding sea that finally led us to each other. We were both raised in Arvada, both went to excellent high schools, both played sports, and both ended up at the University of Northern Colorado. Even through all this proximity, we never crossed paths. It was the winter of 2014, and those strings that had been slowly pulling us together said, “It is time!” One of Amanda's friends had asked if she wanted to come hang out with her and her dormmates and of course Amanda said sure. She walked into the dorm and was introduced to many people. There was a small group sitting down on the couch playing FIFA; Kayla happened to be one of them. Little did the two know their lives were about to collide and they were about to fall in love…. Over the next year, the two's friendship continued to grow, and they adopted the best little baby boy, Humphrey James. They had no idea what they were signing up for, but the look on everyone’s face when they said they had a terrier lab mix gave them the impression they were in over their heads, and boy were they. That little boy has continued to surprise them in the best way possible and he has been the biggest blessing in their lives. The two continued to become inseparable and vowed to live every day loving each other and their baby to the fullest extent possible, no matter how high the waves of life may rise. They started to discuss the next steps in their relationship and what they wanted it to look like, living authentically them. Kayla asked Humphrey’s permission for Amanda's hand and in March of 2023 she officially asked Amanda to marry her, and of course, she said yes!
Kayla with the help of her sister, Kelli, staged family photos with Humphrey in Boulder at a beautiful scenic spot called the Lost Gulch Overlook. The day of photos, we hiked out to the overlook as Humphrey pulled us over the rocks and as I adventurously looked over the ledge, I looked back over to Kayla down on one knee. All I could scream is, "YES," and we were engaged. It was beautiful when it began to snow, as if we were in a snow globe. Afterword, we went to our favorite spot to grab celebratory drinks, Stem Ciders and had an absolute blast sipping on our favorite, Tangerine Cream! We could not be more excited for this next chapter in our lives and are thrilled to celebrate with you. See you in Evergreen!
