Question

Is this a formal wedding?

Answer

It is not a formal wedding, although there will still be some traditional components such as a ceremony. We wanted a wedding celebration that was true to us and true to our style. We are looking at this more so as a family and friends vacation to celebrate us choosing marriage after being happily together for 8 years. We will be legally married prior to arriving to Cancun and then we will be having a ceremony on the beach to symbolize our marriage where we will exchange vows in front of all of our loved ones. We will update with more information once we work out the details with the hotel. We appreciate how much everyone wants to be there and are willing to travel to celebrate with us. Many of you have witnessed our relationship grow from the day we met in 2013. Many of you have contributed in more ways than you know to our lives as a couple and we are grateful for all of you!

Question

What days will the bride and groom be staying and at which hotel?

Answer

We will be staying at the Barcelo Maya Riviera Adults Only only hotel so that we have access to the entire resort and can be around all of our guests. We are arriving on August 25th and departing August 31st. Guests can arrive and leave at their discretion.

Question

What hotel do we book?

Answer

You can book at any of the hotels listed on the “TRAVEL” tab. Each tab has a direct link to the website of each hotel within the resort for more details. Barcelo Maya Grand Resort is a resort consisting of Barceló Maya Beach, Barceló Maya Caribe, Barceló Maya Colonial, and Barceló Maya Tropical. By booking at one hotel, you have access to 4 hotels (Barcelo Maya Beach, Barcelo Maya Caribe, Barcelo Maya Colonial, and Barcelo Maya Tropical) within the resort and you have access to all the common areas no matter which hotel you stay at. You can also book Barcelo Maya Palace and have access to the 4 previously listed. If you stay at the adults only hotel, Barcelo Maya Riviera, you have access to the ENTIRE resort (6 hotels). There is transportation within the resort to move you from one area to the other or you can walk to burn the calories from all the food and drinks you’ll be having. :) I know it’s a little confusing so if anyone has any questions just call me or Joe and we can break it down to you! The resort is huge so I know the information can be overwhelming.

Question

Is there a room block?

Answer

There is no room block. The hotel staff that has been helping me stated that in her experience most people have found cheaper deals on 3rd party websites like Expedia, Travelocity, Cheap Carribean, etc. than by booking directly through the hotel. The hotel does not price match. She suggested we book through that or a travel agency rather than with the hotel for best rates.

Question

How should we book our flights?

Answer

You can book flights directly through airlines, third party websites (i.e. Expedia), or contact a travel agency (especially if you want a payment plan). Whatever you feel most comfortable with. You can use the app Hopper to track flight prices and see when a good time to book is. Keep in mind that oil prices are rising which may cause airlines to increase their prices, as well so it might be best to book sooner than later.

Question

What about transportation from the airport to the hotel?

Answer

The airport is about 49 miles from the hotel. There are a few ways to book transportation to and from the airport. You can book through the hotel via a shuttle bus, but these buses usually stop at several hotels and can take hours to arrive. I recommend booking through a special contact person that I will give further details for soon. This person can help you find good rates for private transportation like a bus for you and your group or even if you’re traveling alone. You can also look online at other airport transportation. I do not recommend booking transportation once you arrive there. You will see many different transportation companies outside the airport trying to sell you rides, just ignore them and look directly for the company you already booked.

Question

Is there a dress code?

Answer

We want our wedding to be cool and casual! There is no dress code, just keep in mind that the ceremony is on the beach so be mindful that it will be hot and you have to walk through sand! We would appreciate if guests could incorporate sage green in their attire. ****ALL of the specialty restaurants require a dress code. Men, make sure you pack some dress shoes and slacks!! Some of the restaurants require that for men.*** Ladies, I already know you’ll have a whole wardrobe packed in your suitcases. Lol

Question

Is there a reception?

Answer

We will be having a beach ceremony where ALL of our guests are welcome to join. The ceremony is on August 29, 2022 at 4:00 pm. This will be followed by a cocktail hour on the beach where we will get to toast and mingle with everyone. There is no reception after the ceremony. We will be having a private dinner with our immediate family at Mexico Lindo, a Mexican restaurant at the resort. Everyone can either choose to try and make a reservation there or any of the other specialty restaurants available. Reservations are required for the specialty restaurants so keep that in mind when planning. It is HIGHLY suggested that you make all of your reservations for the restaurants upon your arrival. Unfortunately, the hotels club is still closed due to covid so we will have to find another spot for us to continue to celebrate after dinner!

Question

Can we bring kids?

Answer

Yes, kids are welcome. The hotel is kid friendly. They have plenty of child friendly activities including a children’s water park and kids club. Barcelo Maya Beach hotel is the best one for families with small children, and you still have access to the other hotels (except adults only).

Question

Do we have to pay for food and drinks?

Answer

The resort is all-inclusive so this includes all of your food and drinks. It has many options for grill style, buffet, and specialty cuisine restaurants. Breakfast, lunch and dinner at a total of 16 restaurants, including 4 buffet restaurants, 4 oceanfront grill restaurants, 8 à la carte restaurants: México Lindo (Mexican), La Fuente (Spanish), Mare Nostrum (seafood), Kyoto (Japanese), Capri (Italian), Santa Fe (meat), and new restaurants Tokyo (Japanese) and La Trattoria Ristorante Italiano. All the à la carte restaurants require prior reservation and have a dress code. 15 bars which include a sports bar open 24-hours a day, nightclub bars, and swimming pool bars with unlimited domestic drinks and a selection of international drinks. You must be over 18 years of age to consume alcoholic beverages.

Question

What else is there to do besides the beach and pools?

Answer

Question

What other activities does the resort have?

Answer

Question

Do we only stay at the hotel during the whole trip?

Answer

It’s up to you! While there’s much to do at the resort, there is so much to do outside of it!! From ruins, underwater swimming, and cenotes to restaurants, bars, and shopping. Check out the things to do list on our wedding website for some ideas. These are at another cost and totally up to you. Some of these excursions are all day and some are a few hours. You can book excursions through my friend Francisco Barrera who works out there through Expedia. You can also book at the hotel or through any website! Let me know if you have any questions .

Question

Who should we contact if we have more questions?

Answer

Feel free to call or text Amanda or Joe!
