John and Amanda's first date was at San Pedro Square Market in downtown San Jose drinking beer and chatting in the courtyard. They were having such a good time getting to know one another that they ended up moving a few doors down to O'Flaherty's to continue the date. After they walked back to their cars, they shared their first kiss. They still don't agree on who kissed who!

John proposed during a trip to Paso Robles in the fall of 2020. The proposal almost didn't happen because the ring hadn't yet arrived when they were getting ready to leave, but John was able to intercept the delivery at the last minute! John was waiting for the moment that felt right to ask Amanda and the perfect moment was at Midnight Cellars, their last stop of the day. Amanda was caught off guard because she figured he would have proposed to her at the Field of Lights if he was going to do it at all. Amanda didn't even let him finish asking before she said "yes!"
