We would describe this as "the best choice we never made" because it feels like a true miracle has happened to us. A miracle that's still happening. It hasn't stopped. From the very beginning, we can't remember the moment we chose each other. Rather, it felt like God chose us for each other, and because it was so obvious, we couldn't deny it and had to just go with it. We met the old-fashioned way... on the street corners of Elm and Findlay (outside a gay club at 2:15 in the morning). Amanda approached a familiar face from the club to ask where the afterparty was. Dustin, as if struck by the arrow of Cupid and pulled forward by a powerful magnet, immediately floated over to Amanda and touched her stomach with his forefinger. It was awkward. And unusual. She looked at him and thought, "Do I know you?" And then he said the only thing he could think to say. "I like your dress." At the after-party, it didn't take long for him to make his way to where she was sitting alone on the couch. On that couch, they shared a fast recap of their life stories, which quickly led to what Amanda assumed was a deep conversation with a stranger that she would never see again. (Because when she left... he did not ask for her number.) He did, however, leave her with a parting gift... A hand. Yes, literally, he gave her a tiny rubber hand to remember him by. Because that night as they sat on the couch, sharing their life stories, he had asked her if he could hold her hand. (She said yes.) (No, it wasn't awkward.) With no knowledge of her last name, and no facebook friends in common, he miraculously found her in less than 24 hours. They had their first date that Wednesday, their second date that Saturday, and by day 20 (December 24th, Christmas Eve) they made it official when Dustin asked her to marry him outside his grandparents' house after meeting his whole family and gave her his family's heirloom ring. That night she met Isabella, Oakleigh and Graeme, and the next day they all spent Christmas Day with her family. Every day since the first has been filled with so much joy and love. Even hard days don't seem that bad anymore. It has been a whirlwind... but somehow Dustin feels as if he went as slow as he could (which Amanda laughs about, and also couldn't imagine it happening any other way). We are so excited to share our love and joy with our immediate family and closest friends. We hope you will join us in this celebration.
