How We Met

Somerville, MA

We met at a party at a mutual friend’s apartment (thanks Lauren!) over a friendly game of beer pong. Ben lost the game, but won Amanda’s phone number. Our first date was at Wits End, a bar known for its fun drinks and many board games. A few games of Jenga and Battle Ship led to adventures every weekend and meeting each other's friends and families.. and the rest is history!

The Proposal- World's End (Hingham, MA)

01/23/21

Amanda: On the windiest day of 2021, at World's End, Ben planned a hike for us, and friends, Stef and Steve. I was set on getting the perfect picture of the Boston skyline, despite my frozen fingers. After getting the picture, I was ready to thaw out in the warm car, not knowing that Ben had other plans. In a last-ditch effort to save the day, Steve led the group to the top of a grassy hill for a "group picture." As I turned around, I saw Ben on one knee, fumbling to take a box out of his jacket. When I realized what was happening, my eyes fixated on the most beautiful ring I had ever seen. I'm sure Ben said something wonderful, but I was awestruck. Afterward, we celebrated with champagne and a few more surprises. Luckily we had a 45 minute drive ahead of us so I was able to call loved ones to share the news! Ben: I didn't know where I would propose, but I was sure of one thing- Amanda loves hiking/walking anywhere and everywhere (even if that means 3 miles each way to dinner). I was researching "romantic hikes near Boston" and found World's End, in Hingham. I was hoping we'd get one of those randomly nice January days, but boy was I wrong! It couldn't have been above 15 degrees at World's End, which I now know is the windiest place on earth. We started walking around the park and I was anxious to propose, but wasn't sure where to do it. We ended up along the water, but it was so windy we couldn't hear each other speak. I didn't want to scream my proposal at Amanda over the gusts of wind. Finally as we prepared to leave, I was running out of time to propose. Luckily Steve suggested we walk up to the top of a grassy knoll for a "better view of Boston." The wind was calmer and I knew this was my chance. I got down on one knee and attempted to take the ring out of my jacket. My fingers were frozen inside my gloves, so the ring basically flopped open in front of Amanda. I recited my speech, which I don't think she heard a word of. She said yes I think?
