Khamal played on the Princeton University football team, and Amanda played on the Princeton University basketball team, so they ran in the same social group. They had also taken a few classes together, both being Politics majors. However, it wasn't until they each enrolled in a small politics class during the second semester of their junior year in 2015 where they both got to know each other more. The class was too small to have preceptors, so students were encouraged to work together through the study material. Khamal and Amanda joined the same study group, and by the end of the term, both developed crushes on each other that led to a relationship. We think both can look back at their experience at Princeton and say that this was their favorite class they took!
Khamal told Amanda that his boss was hosting a charity event on Saturday, December 8th at 3pm in the afternoon, and that he invited Amanda as well. Amanda, having met Khamal's boss before, was excited to attend an event where she could meet and spend time with Khamal's colleagues and have an excuse to dress up (Khamal was strategic!). Khamal told Amanda that the event was at a reception/events house in the West Village near Amanda's apartment, and Amanda thought it was so convenient but never thought twice about it - she was excited about the event! Khamal met Amanda at her apartment to walk to the venue, and on the way there, Khamal told Amanda they could cut through St. Luke's church's courtyard. He led Amanda through first, and as she rounded the corner she came across a bench that said, "Will You Marry Me?" Amanda immediately said yes, and they were engaged in the most magical setting beyond what Amanda could have ever imagined (and, as Khamal had to tell Amanda, there was no charity event)! We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter of our lives with you. See you in New York City!
