A Recollection of Events

How a first date becomes an anniversary.

Amanda & Lea first matched on Bumble right after the Minneapolis Miracle and right before the 38-7 Eagles beatdown. Their first date was at Bar Lubitsch on January 25th 2018, where they drank Moscow mules. Lea spent the next 5 years thinking this was Amanda's favorite drink, later learning she had only ordered one that night because it was 'on brand' for the bar. Lea wrote a song about this first date, incorrectly calling it a German bar despite it specializing in vodka and being obviously Russian. (The song still hits.) The only song they can remember definitely playing that night is "Feels Great" by Cheat Codes and Fetty Wap. They talked for hours about tv shows, books, and plenty of nothing in particular, with each minute feeling profound. Bar Lubitsch has since been converted into a Vampire bar. They returned once - Lea was promptly hexed by a woman standing conspicuously close and mumbling erratically. They haven't returned since. Their second date was a block party downtown. They first met up at Lea's apartment, and Amanda noticed a Pokemon snapback identical to her own. A sign. Lea then made Amanda a drink, and Amanda recalls "There was no ice in it." They don't remember being at the block party long, but Amanda remembers that Lea thoughtfully bought her a bag of Goldfish crackers, which was the only thing she ate that day. Their third date was to trivia at Barney's Beanery on Santa Monica Blvd. This became a tradition that grew to include many new and old friends, guest star appearances (including Selena Gomez), and a feature in the LA Times. These first three dates occurred over the course of 5 days, and it didn't take long for them to agree that January 25th might as well just be their anniversary, cause they could see where this thing was going from a mile away. Just like that, they were in a long-distance relationship with commutes from the Westside to Hollywood. Within eight months, they'd tired of that 12 mile trek. They decided to move in together, and found a sunny 3rd floor spot in Miracle Mile, right across from the Tar Pits and "those street lamps from 'No Strings Attached' ". It quickly became a favorite spot for game days, Murder Mystery parties, board game nights, Friendsgivings, and, occasionally, FriendsEasters. And because of rent control, they'll probably never leave. Ironically, little did either of them know that within a month of them finally moving in together, they'd be confronted with proper long-distance. Amanda boldly began a new career in live events, where she spent weeks on the road touring. She later moved into television production and traveled the remotest parts of the globe. But they soon learned to adapt, partially because they both are so aligned in their eternal curiosity and incredible passion for travel. Together, the years have taken them across the United States and abroad, to San Diego Comic Con and Yosemite, to Paris and Milan and the Grand Canyon in the dead of winter. Many people have asked their proposal story, and the truth is, it could've been much better had Lea stuck to her guns. They went to Catalina Island for a weekend getaway, and she had the grand idea of proposing at the top of the mountain before they ziplined down. But after getting the sense 'Willy-Wacked' into her at a Tiki bar (that's a story for another time), she changed her course. Perhaps a valuable ring was not meant for ziplining. So instead, after a night befriending the entire island population and tearing up the dance floor at the only club in Catalina, she proposed as a casual suggestion as they lay exhausted back in the hotel room after one of the most unexpected nights of their lives. In short, Amanda & Lea love witty jokes, big ideas, and new adventures. They are never afraid of growing, something they encourage and bring out in each other daily. The craziest part of the whole thing is that this is just the beginning. They'd love for you to be apart of that.
