While we are hoping to celebrate with all of you in person, we recognize that we are still in the midst of a global pandemic and things may not look exactly as we'd planned. In light of that, we are doing everything we can to plan a day that is both beautiful, fun, and most importantly, safe. We will be following all state safety guidelines, including limit the number of attendees to 75, and we encourage you to only do what feels safest for you. Check out the FAQ for more info on our safety plans and ways you can join us from afar!
Unbeknownst to each other, we both moved to Chicago from California - Amanda from LA; Julian from the Bay Area - in 2016 and started working at Intrinsic Schools - Amanda teaching Drama and Media Studies; Julian supporting students with special needs. Julian supported students in Amanda's class and thus became the adult who has seen Amanda teach more than anyone else. We quickly grew to admire each other professionally and became friends outside of work, attending board game nights and improv shows with mutual friends throughout 2017 and 2018. Then one night in January of 2019, Amanda was enjoying a wine night with a few of our co-workers/friends when the topic of how great Julian is came up. Folks noted that someone from our school should date Julian, since he was such a catch, and Amanda (maybe a little too) quickly offered that she would be interested. Our mutual friend, Miranda then spilled that Julian had been interested in Amanda for months. Amanda was surprised and delighted, and after some group texting that was slightly reminiscent of middle school sleepovers, we had a plan to on our first date 24 hours later. After dating for what felt like a long time, but was actually only five months, we moved to Minneapolis together, so Amanda could start a PhD program at the University of Minnesota. Luckily, Julian found a perfect job teaching middle school English nearby. Another long but short time later, in January of 2020, on the one year anniversary of Miranda texting Julian that he should ask Amanda out, Julian proposed. Given that we've spent the last eight months quarantining together in a one-bedroom apartment and have only fallen more in love with each other more, we think we made the right decision.
