We're Getting Married!

Freshman year at UT San Antonio, we were both invited to celebrate a friend — or for Alec, his roommate's friend's — birthday at a country dance hall, Wild West. We met briefly and started dancing with other bar-goers and enjoying the night. My friend, Jackie, overheard Alec say he thought I was cute, and she confidently told him that I wanted him to ask me to dance. She then promptly ran and told me this so that I wouldn't turn him down. Alec finally did ask me to dance, and I said yes. It was his first time two-stepping, but I didn't mind that he kept forgetting to take the one step back after each two steps forward. A few sweaty-palmed laps (not songs) around the dance floor later and one group trip to Whataburger, the night was over. Thankfully, Alec found me on UTSA's campus later the next week and asked for my number. After about a week of getting to know each other through our friend group, we went on our first date on the San Antonio River Walk. And that was the last first date of our lives.
