We met on Bridgeport Helitack, a crew based out of Minden, Nevada. She was the firefighter, and he was the pilot. After crew introductions, she was highly unimpressed by his cockiness. Fortunately, fire season begins to wind down in Nevada around October when the monsoons begin to cool the high desert. Overhead is left with the daunting task of keeping a crew of 10 bored firefighters entertained and the best they could come up with was Mario Kart. After a few humbling games, Mario Kart did the trick and gave him an in. There were many nights spent playing Mario Kart from there and they both knew early on that this could be something extremely fun!
It was an early day of planned activities, and nothing sounded better than waffles and mimosas. He had picked a restaurant and off they went! Navigating the water taxi system in Venice, Italy proved to be difficult as everything is in a foreign language. It took a bit of time, but in the end they got on the correct boat heading closer to their goal! However, somewhere along the way his GPS "lost service" and they were left to find this place without any assistance. They walked around aimlessly while he tried to get service. Then...she noticed something. Someone was following their every move. Stranger! Danger! She kept mentioning, "Someone is following us." But kept getting dismissed, which made her even more anxious. After what felt like an eternity, the man pulled out a camera. Everything started to make a little more sense, and after a few more turns, Soeren got down on one knee on Point Delle Eremite bridge. Of course she said YES! He knew the taxi system all along, they were just waiting on the photographer to follow. They were never lost, the original proposal bridge was just jam packed with people and he needed time to improvise. The strange man was their lovely photographer. It was an eventful day of planned events that went sideways for Soeren, but he took it all in stride like a champion!
