In 2015, during Franzin's last two weeks at Buffalo Wild Wings, he decided to train one more new hire. That new hire ended up being Alyssa, freshly graduated from high school, taking a year off, and was about to start her first job. Their first interaction centered around the soda machine. Franzin insisted he was a "pro at this" and it would only take a few seconds... he put it together upside down. That broke the ice and helped create what would soon become a close friendship. On the last night of training, Franzin asked for Alyssa's number so he could "add it to the group chat"... there was no group chat. For the next few months, Franzin & Alyssa hung out a few times, got to know each other, and soon became very close friends. Things happened, they rarely saw each other in person anymore, and they grew apart. On one fateful night a few months later, Franzin was out and about with some friends when Alyssa texted him asking if he was going over to their mutual friend's house. Franzin abruptly dropped what he was doing and skated over to their friend's house to rekindle his friendship with Alyssa. From that night forward, they were locked in with each other. Within 3 months of actually dating, Alyssa moved away to go to Fresno State and Franzin stayed in the Bay. That began 4 long years of partial long distance. It's partial because they still managed to see each other at least twice a month! After many FaceTimes, 3 hour drives, 4 hour Amtrak rides, and many "Fresno Things", the COVID 19 pandemic brought Alyssa back to the Bay. In early 2021, Franzin and Alyssa moved into their first apartment together. It was just the two of them and their baby tortoise, Pebbles. It took a little while for them to get used to being around each other constantly after 4 years of being apart, but their determination to make it work always prevailed. Shortly after Franzin's parents moved to the Philippines, Alyssa got Franzin a 3-legged dog from Ukraine named Shumka! Owning a dog with a disability taught the both of them a lot about patience and even more responsibility. Fast forward to June 2023. Franzin had just graduated from Cal State East Bay with a B.A in psychology, and Alyssa had just finished her first year of Respiratory Therapy school. They dropped off Shumka at Alyssa's parents house (his second favorite place), and took off on a road trip from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon, to Antelope Canyon, and then to Zion National Park on their 7th year anniversary. Alyssa and Franzin had previously agreed that marriage was only on the table after they BOTH had their bachelor's degrees. Little did Alyssa know that Franzin had already bought the ring and asked her dad, mom, brother, and, unintentionally, her cousin for permission to marry her. Franzin had originally planned to propose to Alyssa during their hike through The Narrows. FLASH FLOOD = Hike Cancelled. Then he changed plans and decided to ask on the Canyon Overlook trail. ROAD COLLAPSED = Hike Cancelled. Panicked. Stressed. Yet Hopeful. He changed his plans to the sunset hike on the Pa'Rus Trail. CLOUDS!! But that didn't stop him from finding a spot right off the trail where it was only the two of them over the Virgin River. He asked her to marry him, and of course she said yes!! Now one year later, Franzin got promoted to Program Manager and Alyssa graduated from RT school. They have been together for 8 years, engaged for 1 year, and ready for forever!!
