D.J. and Allie met in a geology class at Moorpark College. D.J. noticed Allie first and got up the courage to talk to her. They bonded over their rock collections and their mutual love of craft beer.

The Geology class that D.J. and Allie met in had a mandatory field trip to Vazquez Rocks. After the field trip D.J. asked Allie if she wanted to get a beer at Enegren Brewing Company. She accepted and after Enegren they ended up at the Golden Nugget Pub where they shut down the bar and talked all night in D.J.'s car. They have been inseparable ever since.

When D.J. and Allie first met they had talked about wanting to see a glacier someday. Fast forward to June 8, 2019 they finally got to see that glacier while on an Alaskan Cruise. That night, on the formal night, D.J. dropped to one knee and asked for Allie to be his wife. She said yes. The next day they found a ring in Juneau and buying it almost caused them to miss their boat before it left.
