It was Halloween Lee was dressed in his best nerd wear and Alyssa was an age appropriate pirate. Upon leaving the bar that evening - Lee offered his lab coat and Alyssa forced him to take her number.
Lee had applied to the Calgary Fire Department just before meeting Alyssa in Kelowna. No surprise, he was successful in his application and started at the training academy April 2011. During this time, Alyssa applied to the University of Calgary for Social Work and was accepted later that spring.
We've been lucky to call Calgary home for the last several years. Alyssa finished school in 2013 and started with the City of Calgary shortly after. Lee's slept and ate his way through nine plus years of firefighting - obtaining special roles including Instructing for Apparatus Operation and a memorable opportunity to help his colleagues in Fort McMurray during the 2016 fire. Other fun facts include, adopting our first pup - Ozzy, moving into a lovely house in burbs of Calgary and travelling when provided the opportunity.
Alyssa planned and booked a trip to New York to celebrate 10 laps of the sun with Lee. Lee planned and stumbled upon the perfect opportunity to propose. Calm, cool and collected Lee, carried around the engagement ring in his pocket for four days, waiting for the best spot. After a chilly hop-on-hop-off bus tour of the City, we hopped off to see the sights of Central Park after dark. Alyssa would say the mood was panicked, as they walked past every crime scene in Law and Order but Lee was optimistic this was the spot. After stumbling upon the Belvedere Castle, the full moon and city skyline - it was perfect. Keeping it simple, Lee asked - Alyssa said "Of Course" and the rest was history.
