Bali will always be the place where our lives changed. When we first visited in November of 2023, we had no idea how deeply it would shape our future. We spent eighteen days exploring different cities, but it was a tiny group of islands off the coast of Lombok that captured our hearts forever. The Gili Islands—three small pieces of land surrounded by crystal water and quiet skies—felt like stepping into another world. With no cars and only sandy paths to guide you, you can walk the whole island in under an hour. The moment we arrived, something in us settled. We felt peace in a way we never had before. We spent our days hopping between islands, making friends with the locals, and soaking in every bit of calm the ocean had to offer. Our passion for travel and for learning from new cultures made every moment feel meaningful. We weren’t just exploring a place—we were opening ourselves up to new ways of living, thinking, and connecting. One of our favorite memories is the day we asked a local if he knew where we could go spear fishing. He smiled and said he had a friend. The next morning we were out in the open ocean with nothing but the waves, the sun, and spear guns in our hands. For the first few minutes we were overwhelmed, pushed far outside our comfort zone, but that fear quickly turned into excitement and eventually into a fullbody peace. Our guide helped us catch a string of fish and took us back to shore, where our new friend gathered many of his closest friends. They arrived with spices, sides, and plenty of Bintang. Together they grilled the fish on the beach, and we spent the evening celebrating, laughing, and creating memories we still cherish. We’re still in touch with those friends today. (He is actually helping us set up some wonderful activies for our guests.) We learned how to roast a pig, explored remote corners of the country, and let ourselves truly slow down. More than anything, Bali became the place where we grew closer, where we felt free, and where our love became something deeper and stronger. That is why we are getting married in Bali. We want to share this place—the peace, the beauty, the feeling of being far away from the noise of everyday life—with the people we love most. And it wouldn’t feel like our wedding if we weren’t hoping to give others a chance to feel the same sense of wonder, adventure, and connection that changed us. We know it is a long journey, but we have planned so much to make it unforgettable, and we hope you will make the trip to celebrate with us. Bali is the place where we fell in love. Bali siempre será el lugar donde nuestras vidas cambiaron. Cuando lo visitamos por primera vez, en noviembre de 2023, no teníamos idea de lo profundamente que moldearía nuestro futuro. Pasamos dieciocho días explorando diferentes ciudades, pero fue un pequeño grupo de islas frente a la costa de Lombok lo que capturó nuestros corazones para siempre. Las Islas Gili, tres pequeños pedazos de tierra rodeados de aguas cristalinas y cielos tranquilos, se sentían como entrar en otro mundo. Sin autos y con solo senderos de arena para guiarnos, se puede recorrer toda la isla en menos de una hora. En el momento en que llegamos, algo en nosotros se aquietó. Sentimos una paz como nunca antes. Pasamos nuestros días saltando de isla en isla, haciendo amigos con los locales y absorbiendo cada instante de calma que el océano ofrecía. Uno de nuestros recuerdos favoritos es el día en que le preguntamos a un local si sabía dónde podíamos ir a pescar con arpón. Sonrió y dijo que tenía un amigo. A la mañana siguiente estábamos en mar abierto con nada más que las olas, el sol y los arpones en nuestras manos. Ese miedo rápidamente se convirtió en emoción, y luego en una calma que nunca habíamos sentido. Nuestro guía nos ayudó a atrapar una hilera de peces, y esa noche compartimos una fiesta en la playa con Bintangs y nuevos amigos que nos recibieron como familia. Fue un recordatorio de que nuestra conexión profunda trasciende en cualquier lugar y en todas partes. Nuestro camino hasta este momento también ha sido moldeado por la familia, el sacrificio y la resiliencia. Venimos de orígenes humildes, y nunca olvidamos a las personas que hicieron posible que soñáramos más allá de lo que ellos tuvieron. Nuestras raíces se extienden a través de continentes y culturas, irlandesas, mayas y noruegas, y llevamos con nosotros la fuerza, las historias y las tradiciones de esas líneas. Incluso cuando la distancia o las circunstancias nos mantienen separados, su amor está tejido en todo lo que hacemos. Esta boda no se trata solo de nosotros, se trata de honrar a la familia, de llevar a nuestros ancestros con nosotros y de celebrar los lazos y raíces que nos conectan a través de fronteras y generaciones. Por eso nos casamos en Bali. Queremos compartir este lugar, la paz, la belleza, la sensación de estar lejos del ruido de la vida cotidiana, con las personas que más amamos.
