Aly and Jeff are a Tinder success story! Let me take you back to how it started. In March 2019, Aly was competing at the NCAA D1 Championship swim meet in Austin, TX. Single then, she decided to download Tinder to find out about the bar scene in downtown Austin. Her plan? To celebrate the end of the season with her teammates after the meet was over on Saturday. As she was swiping, she stumbled upon a tall, handsome man and noticed that he was also a swimmer at The University of Texas. Aly correctly assumed he would be familiar with the downtown bar scene, so she swiped “right.” She decided to send the first message, and his response was a meme from the 21 Jump Street movie with Channing Tatum. The exact scene is when Channing’s character says, “My name Jeff,” trying to imitate someone who could speak Spanish. Unfortunately, Jeff and Aly never went out together this week because Jeff was competing at his NCAA championship meet the following week. After each of their swim seasons concluded, they decided to continue texting and having FaceTime conversations. Aly invited Jeff to Chicago after a Summer National Swim Meet in Stanford, CA, where they officially met in person for the first time. They spent 2 days experiencing Chicago, walking around being tourists and eating yummy food. After Chicago, Jeff and Aly continued their week spent together by staying with Aly’s family in Crown Point, IN. Jeff and Aly proceeded to make plans to visit each other in Austin, TX, or Auburn, AL, once a month until they made it “official” in November 2019. They continued long-distance for two more years until Jeff retired from professional swimming in June 2021. In August 2021, they moved into their first apartment together in Raleigh, NC. While Aly was finishing her swim career with the ISL, Jeff found his current job at S&P Global. When Aly retired from professional swimming in March 2022, she started looking for jobs. Several universities reached out to her for a college coaching position. Aly and Jeff decided to move to Fort Myers, FL in August 2022. She started her first year coaching at Florida Gulf Coast University. In November 2023, the Newkirk and Tetzloff Families finally met in Florida for Thanksgiving. The 2024 Spring brought lots of change. Aly’s job search took her to the University of Utah as an assistant coach. Right before heading out to live on her own in Utah, Jeff popped the question in May 2024. With the change in job and the promotion to fiancée came 2 months of long-distance. In August 2024, Aly flew back to Florida to meet Jeff, pack up all their belongings, and move across the country to their 3rd home together in Salt Lake City, Utah. We are absolutely in love with Utah and cannot wait to celebrate our love and our new home in this gorgeous state with you all!
