Flight
Reno Tahoe (RNO) Airport is the most convenient to fly into. The airport is only an 8 minute drive to downtown. If you wanted to find another airport and rent a car, Sacramento Airport (SMF) is the next best option. It is about a 2 hour beautiful drive though the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Flying into the Bay Area is the next option. It's a 3 hour drive to Reno from Oakland (OAK)/San Francisco (SFO). You could spend some time visiting wine country before you head up the mountain.
