The First Day

01.24.2013

Despite attending the same high school, Ryan & Kara's paths didn't cross until Christmas 2012 after they'd both graduated. Christmas 2012 was the first time in years that Swan Lake wasn't completely iced over, so naturally Kara and her dad were compelled to waterski at the family cabin. Who doesn't want to waterski on Christmas in Montana? They pulled the boat out of the garage, suited up, and skied a loop each. It was epic! Apparently Ryan (also an avid water-skier) thought so too, because when the pictures came across his Facebook feed that night, he asked his buddy Zach if he knew the crazy girl in the photos. Ryan not only learned that Kara was single, but that they had a bunch of mutual friends. Through these friends Ryan obtained Kara's number, worked up some courage, and invited her on a blind date to Romeos. Neither of them knew it at the time, but that would be their last first date.

The Yes Day

05.28.2019

The day of the proposal started out just like any spring day up at the lake. Kara got up a little earlier than Ryan and helped herself to a cup of coffee. A little bored, she started washing the windows and tinkering with little projects around the house. Ryan didn't sleep well, he claimed it was because he was nervous for an upcoming test at work. Later that morning, Patrick, Wendy, Ryan and Kara loaded onto the boat and went searching for the perfect water to ski on. "Glass", as they call it, couldn't be found anywhere so they decided to surf behind the boat instead. Despite being May, the water was a chilly 55 degrees (probably warmer than Christmas, though) so Kara (unaware of what was about to happen) opted for her dad's thicker wet suit, jumped in, and started surfing. She found it slightly odd that Wendy instantly started videoing, but assumed she just wanted to catch Kara if she attempted some tricks in the cold water. Kara shouted to Ryan "360?!" Ryan replied "No!!!" He'd been planning for the perfect moment to propose. He knew how much Kara loved the lake. He had asked her dad, and he and Wendy were in on the scheme. The last thing he wanted was for her to wipe out before he had the chance to ask his dream girl to marry him. Before Kara knew it, their song was blasting through the speakers and Ryan was on one knee. The look of shock and excitement on Kara's face was captured forever on the video. It was the perfect proposal at the perfect place. P.S. Kara's favorite part of the proposal was learning that not only did Ryan have to ask for her dads permission to marry her but also if it was okay that he kneel on the back of his boat :)
