A great man named Pastor Randall McDonald told us about one another but the timing just wasn't right. Then comes COVID. After things started opening back up and going places was allowed, in June I went to lunch with my Pastor and his wife (the wonderful Rene McDonald), and he mentioned him to me again and this time they even showed me a picture of him. I remember it very clearly. Pastor Randall was taking the tomatoes off of his salad and Rene was pulling up pictures of him on her phone. But like all great things, the timing was still not right. If there is anything that I have learned it is that God's timing is PERFECT and totally worth waiting on. Fast forward a few months to September. When I got the Rona. I was at home for two weeks and sick. I didn't really have much to do. Going ANYWHERE was out of the question. I had just moved into my apartment days before but was too tired to unpack anything. Somehow I ended up on Facebook Dating. And then I saw him. That handsome fella that my Pastor and his wife had shown me at lunch a few months before. I was a little hesitant at first thinking I wasn't deserving of a good man like Austin was described to me but after some late night prayer, I clicked the heart and we matched. Then after more prayer, I sent a message. On my first day out of quarantine, we had our first date.
For our first date, Austin took me to church. My relationship with Jesus is more important than any relationship with a man could ever be. On my first date with any guy, I had wanted it to be at church. I had imagined it being at my church because that was where I felt most comfortable. However, like most things, COVID made that impossible. Since the people from my church who tested positive from the virus included the Pastor and worship team, we had to shut down for a few weeks. While my church was what I pictured my first date with my future husband to be, God knew better. On Wednesday, September 16th, 2020 Austin Wells drove to my apartment, parked his car (while I nervously watched out the window), and walked up to my door and knocked. Chivalry wasn't dead after all. He asked if he could give me a hug and I said yes without hesitation. He asked for my hand and we walked down stairs to his car where he then drove me to his church. We were both super nervous. I was really nervous about going to his church. There were so many new people but they made me feel so welcomed. He never left my side and held my hand until church started which made me feel at ease. And all the sweet ladies kept telling me how pretty I was which definitely helped. I knew I was in the right place with the right person when we started singing and he held my hymnal for me. It was then that I knew that he had a sweet and caring soul. Not to mention that he honored my request for our first date to be at church. Once church was over for the night he took me to his favorite restaurant, Posado's, where we were able to talk more and he bought me dinner. Once we had finished a lovely meal together we stayed and talked until they closed the place down. Then we went back to his car and he asked if he could kiss me. I said yes. He kissed me softly on the lips. I was sold.
