Beltane is a fire festival, celebrating the peak of Spring and the coming Summer, when life is at its most fertile and abundant. It's often depicted as the wedding between the May Queen and the Green Man on May 1st. Traditionally, fires are lit to honor the sun ("Bel" is the name for the Celtic god, meaning "Bright One," and "teine" is the gaelic word for fire), and to encourage a good harvest and protection of the community. People jump over the fire to purify, cleanse and bring fertility, and couples jump the fire together to promise themselves to each other.
We put together a Pinterest board to help get you started, with a link listed on our invite. I realize the link wasn't working earlier, but if you try it now, you should be able to access our inspo pics!
Our gathering is intentionally small and being held 100% outdoors. We respectfully request that you take a home test if you've been traveling or feel that you may have been in a situation that has exposed you to Covid. We have guests who are immune-comprimised, and high-risk, and wish to create a container where all can feel safe to celebrate!
There's a short climb up a hill to reach the ceremony location, which can also be accessed by car, by driving along the road that circles up the back of the hill. If you think you'll need assistance, let us know and we'll be happy to make any arrangements necessary! The ground around the reception area is unpaved, but flat. There's a step up to reach the bathrooms.
