Although we went to school together for many years, we hadn't seen each other since graduating high school when we met back up again...12 years later. A mutual friend of ours (and Allyson's boss at the time) thought that we might be good for each other, and he secretly asked each of us if we knew one another, planting the seeds in each of our minds that the other person was out there, and was single. Plus, my boss at the time thought that I would swoon over the idea of Steve owning a brewery. (I didn't, by the way.) So, taking the cue from my boss at the time, Steve reached out to me. I, of course, was too busy to hang out. He was persistent, so I finally gave him a chance. I came to the brewery to hang out and catch up after all these years. The rest is history.
Steve and I took a trip to Australia last spring, and little did I know, but he was planning on proposing to me here. In the middle of our trip, we were spending a few days on the Great Barrier Reef, and Steve had an entire private sunrise kayaking trip arranged for us, including Champagne and a private breakfast on Double Island. After realizing that he had booked the kayaking trip on the wrong day (ahhhh!), and I having not the faintest idea that something terribly wrong had happened, we decided to change our plans, and spend the day in the Daintree Rainforest. When we reached the beach at Cape Tribulation, we came upon a secluded spot between two palm trees, with a hammock, and a sign nailed to the tree that said, "Fred's Place." Surrounded by the beauty of the Great Barrier Reef and completely secluded by nature in the oldest rainforest in the world, this is where Steve proposed to me.
