We were both members of the ASCE UT student chapter - Harrison was the outgoing Vice President and Allyson was the incoming Outreach Chair. As part of transitioning student officers, we met during a student chapter meeting and got to know each other while working on events for the regional conference. We later enrolled in a couple graduate classes together where we became study partners and friends.
Allyson had been working overseas in Doha, Qatar for two weeks while Harrison attended a friend's wedding in Chattanooga. By the end of the night, Harrison and his friends spring-boarded a proposal plan into motion. Days later, Harrison booked a 14-hour plane ride to Doha, bought a ring, and sat down with Allyson's family, all without her knowing. On July 3, while Allyson was working in her hotel room, someone knocked on the door. Thinking it was the housekeeper a day early, Allyson opened to find Harrison in a suit and tie, down on one knee. Allyson was utterly shocked and said yes! We spent the week together celebrating the engagement and roaming around Doha.
