All of this started in AP English junior year of high school. They started out as classmates, and became friends shortly after. One day, Grant was brave and asked Katelyn if she was interested in going out on a date, and to his surprise, she said yes! They ultimately decided to stay friends rather than date at the time. The two went their separate ways, minus one dinner to catch up while in college, until 12 years later. It was Grant's birthday, and after years of her mother asking about how he was doing, Katelyn reached out on Facebook to tell him happy birthday. The two quickly reconnected and it began the most "out of left field" relationship of their lives. From that first weekend in Fredericksburg, to surviving a motorcycle wreck, 2 cross Texas moves, and a cross country road trip, they have only grown closer as time has moved on. On March 20, 2026, at a historical reenactment event in Mississippi, Grant stood up and spoke of the joys and peace Katelyn brought into his life and the two became engaged! Thus completing chapter 1 of this incredibly corny Hallmark Movie script.
